About The Cattle Exchange

The Cattle Exchange (Pty) Ltd (registration 2016/453432/07) is the company behind The Cattle Exchange, through which we sell livestock across South Africa. We sell live animals; where slaughter and cutting are offered, they are optional services carried out, for your own use, on animals you have already bought. We are not a supplier of meat.

Using the site

You are welcome to browse the site without registering. To make a purchase, you may create an account or check out as a guest by providing your contact details. In using the site, you agree to give accurate information, to keep your account credentials secure, and not to misuse the site, interfere with its operation, or use it for any unlawful purpose. We reserve the right to suspend any account that is used fraudulently or abusively, and we will exercise that right where the circumstances warrant it.

Listings, descriptions and pricing

We take care to describe each animal accurately, and the weights, ages and condition scores shown are given in good faith as estimates rather than as guarantees. Prices are quoted in South African Rand and include value-added tax where it applies. The way in which pricing works, including pricing by live weight, is explained in our pricing and weigh-in policy.

Intellectual property

The site, together with its design, its text and the photography that appears on our listings, belongs to The Cattle Exchange or is used with permission. None of it may be copied, extracted or republished without our written consent.

Availability and liability

We work to keep the site accurate and available, but we do not warrant that it will be uninterrupted or free of error, or that it will be available at any particular time. We may change, suspend or withdraw any part of it, and we do not guarantee that any listing will remain available.

Nothing in these terms excludes or limits any liability that may not lawfully be excluded or limited, including liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence and for our own fraud. Subject to that, our liability arising from your use of the site itself is limited to one thousand rand. This clause governs the site; it does not govern the animals we sell you. Our responsibility for a purchase, and the limits on it, are set out in clause 8 of our terms of sale, which is the document that applies to an order.

Links and third-party services

The site relies on services provided by others, including our payment provider and our mapping and address services, and it may link to sites we do not control. We are not responsible for the content or the practices of a site we do not operate, and a link is not an endorsement. Where a third-party service handles your information, its own terms and privacy notice apply to that handling in addition to ours.

Changes to these terms

We may revise these terms from time to time. The version in force is always the one published here, identified by its version number and the date on which it took effect. Your continued use of the site following a change constitutes your acceptance of the revised terms. A revision to these terms does not alter the terms that govern an order you have already placed, which are the terms of sale in force when you placed it.

Governing law

These terms are governed by the law of the Republic of South Africa, and you consent to the jurisdiction of the courts of South Africa in respect of any matter arising from them. If any provision is found to be unenforceable, the remainder continues in force.
